Child pornography, sexual assault or risk of injury are all serious crimes in Connecticut, and sexting can be a crime if the pictures are of a minor or were taken and/or distributed without consent. Each of these crimes is potentially a felony that could result in more than one year in jail and other penalties. Anyone being investigated or charged with improper sexting, child pornography, sexual assault or risk of injury in Connecticut should hire a lawyer immediately to protect his or her rights. I have successfully represented many individuals charged with these crimes, including minors, parents, autistic young adults and others and, as a result, I can state that getting an attorney early in the process is critical to effective and proper representation.

Physical sex crimes, internet and electronic sex crimes can be very serious. A judge may impose a fine, a term of imprisonment, or both. If a defendant is found guilty of certain offenses of a sexual nature, there are mandatory minimum sentences, sex offender registry requirements, and other consequences of a conviction, including special probations for extended terms. For example, crimes such as aggravated sexual assault of a minor carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years for a first offense. Other degrees of sexual assault carry mandatory minimums that range from 5 to 20 years depending on other factors such as whether force or threatened force was used. Importing, using and/or distributing child pornography carries minimum mandatory sentences as high as 5 years. These are serious risks that hiring an attorney, like me and the team at Ury & Moskow, can help you to evaluate and defend in the most effective means possible.

We work with experts to evaluate our clients’ particular circumstances and to identify defenses and treatment that will best help those clients. For example, recent developments in autism research suggest that autistic people and others on the spectrum may be more likely to engage in certain type of internet or electronic sex crime – including child pornography. Our knowledge of this research not only aids us in advancing defenses for our clients, but may also aid in treatment or identifying appropriate facilities for incarceration going forward. I have established relationships with prosecutors, sentencing specialists, probation and parole officers to help my clients at each and every stage of the process. If you or a loved one is being investigated for or charged with sexting, child pornography, sexual assault or risk of injury in Connecticut, you need to call an attorney immediately. The attorneys at Ury & Moskow and I are available for consultation on these serious matters.
