Answer

The Missouri Human Rights Act provides remedies for children who have been sexually assaulted or harassed while attending a public school in the state of Missouri. Under the Missouri Human Rights Act, a school is considered to be a place of public accommodation. As a result, the law prohibits a child from being denied the benefits of a public education because of harassment or abuse based on their sex/gender. While the harassment or abuse is often sexual in nature, such as student on student sexual harassment, the Missouri Human Rights Act also prohibits discrimination on the basis of other protected classes. This means that if a student is being harassed or bullied because of a disability, their race, religion, or national origin, they may have a claim under the Missouri Human Rights Act. It is important for students to feel safe in their school environment. We work to remedy situations where student rights are not being protected. We advocate for students to have equal educational opportunities.
